A Grade Captain's Report Rd 11 @ Howlong

A grade - Captain' report

Howlong @ Howlong

It's pretty simple, I bring my bus and give the boys a time we are leaving. But, my fellow co-captain being late is as sure a thing as Keenan wearing bare feet apart from when he's bowling. It's a lock. So, after a late start we jetted off to Howlong to be met by a pretty nice deck and some great hospitality. Bowling first I threw the ball to the most unlucky A grade bowler going around. Keeno probably deserved 4 or 5 poles with his constant pressure making easy to build pressure together. We both got a wicket apiece, but that's nothing compared to the leading-edge KING of district cricket Ethan Slocombe. His bamboozlers deserved a swag of wickets as well and he wasn't helped by 6 dropped catches in the field the ball was going through our fingers quicker than Mikka and Azza's prize winning yabby at the races before Christmas! We bowled fairly tight until the last 10 overs when Howlong flicked a switch and piled on 80 runs. To be fair most of our lads were distracted trying to pick up all of Camma's toys that he threw out of the cot so fielding the ball was a secondary concern at that stage. 190 was the the target.

It's fair to say we shook the Christmas cobwebs off in the field so the batting innings was a lot more positive. The Brothers Goodwin flew out of the blocks before Scott kicked his stumps over, but Josh threw together a solid 30. I hung around like the rain over the SCG to end up with 55* but Brenta and Azza scored at a run a ball or better to torch the bowling all over the field. Big Az was assuring me he was looking for quick singles but the ball sailing over the ropes didn't have me believing him too much. Anyway, we steered it home with 5 overs to spare which is pleasing. All in all a good hitout but LOTS to improve on. Punctuality, catching and maintaining composure and not prematurely retiring when the chips are down would all be high on the list.

Big month ahead! #GoKiewa
